Want to chat in 3D? Check out Minoru, which in Japanese means “reality”. Minoru sees you with two eyes instead of one like other webcams.
You can record 3D video clips and take pictures, which you can email or post to YouTube. You can also video chat with Minoru on Windows Live Messenger, Skype and AIM. I wasn’t successful with Live Messenger. It was hung up and never connected. If you get it to work, then be sure to pass along the extra 3D glasses so your friends can see you in 3D.
You’ll have to do some initial setup to make sure you have it focused and working properly. It works with Windows XP and Vista only. Once I got the software to install on my computer, the setup wizard guided me through the rest. You have to focus each eye separately and make sure the 3D view is crisp. Once that’s done, put on your 3D glasses and you’re good to go.
In the long run, I wasn’t overly impressed with Minoru. However, it’s a better webcam than the one built-in on my laptop. If you’re not thrilled with 3D viewing, you can change its settings and downgrade it to the regular 2D.
Minoru 3D is available now and will cost you about 89 bucks.
