Pulse Smartpen from Livescribe
This has to be one of the smartest and coolest pen we’ve ever seen! What makes it smart? For starters, this is not an ordinary pen.
It’s a mobile-computer disguised as a ball point pen. It records and links audio to what you write and draw, among other fun stuff.
You can
actually write with this pen – it’s not a stylus. The Pulse writes on a special notebook with DOT paper where you can interact with what you’ve
written. At the bottom of every page you’ll see controls, such as: Record, Pause, Stop, Jump, Position Bar, Playback Speed and Volume. These controls
allow you to record and playback your notes.

One of my most favorite interactions with the pen is drawing a piano. Using a demo card, there are instructions as to how to draw a
piano. You can see it on this week’s “Into Tomorrow” Update above. The piano actually becomes “alive”. You can change the instrument sounds
and add rhythm to it. It’s really cool! There are other apps that will be available soon for the Pulse.
The Pulse comes with Livescribe software that allows you to transfer your notes to your computer. You’ll see all the pages
where you
have written personal notes and can playback the audio as well. It’s almost as if you scanned them. With Livescribe software, you can also upload your
notes to the Livescribe Community where you can share your notes with other Pulse users. You’ll find some cool stuff there, including how-to pages,
where you can learn tricks & tips from other Pulse users.

The Pulse is available in two versions. The 1 GB costs $149 and the 2 GB costs $199. You can find it at Target and Amazon.
