CardScan Executive for Mac (& Windows)
We’ve tested other scanners in the past, and so far, this is my favorite because it makes easy to scan and collect the info
I want. The CardScan is portable, which makes it easy to travel with. It’s USB powered and doesn’t weigh much.
The most
important thing is that it’s pretty fast. This is their latest edition that works on the Mac. It also works with Windows. Business
cards
can
be inserted vertically or horizontally. You can choose between scanning in color or black. The scanning speed is faster in
monochrome mode,
but it doesn’t do too bad with color. I did several tests and averaged 8 cards in color mode per minute.
With the CardScan software, you’re able to drag-and-drop contact info from email signatures and websites. It saves you from copying
and
pasting. That’s my favorite trick! Most importantly, the CardScan handles OCR (or Optical Character Recognition), so it captures all
text.
I found it to be pretty accurate, though, it didn’t recognize some characters on my business card.
However, it’s easy to fix any errors and you can add more info to each contact.
CardScan makes it easy to sort and search your contacts. You can put individuals into categories, and even create your own
categories. I found that to be helpful. After scanning and verifying what you scan, you can sync your contacts with programs like Outlook,
ACT!, Palm or Windows Mobile, Blackberry, and other programs. With At Your Service, you can back-up your contacts online for FREE after
you register your device. Once you create your account online, your contacts are accessible from any computer.
The CardScan Executive for Mac (& Windows) sells around $260, but they do have other scanners available for less.
If you shop around online, you’ll find it for about $230.
