Product Spotlight

vlingo

vlingo

Vlingo is a FREE voice-powered interface and application that allows you to send emails, text messages, search the Web,
open applications (like your Calendar or Maps), dial a number, look up contacts and even send notes to yourself. It’s
available only on the BlackBerry Pearl, Curve & 8800 Series for now.

For example, by pressing and holding the “command key” or “voice key” on your BlackBerry, you can speak your commands.
Dave’s favorite is the text messaging command. Basically you would say: “Text Dave” and then speak your message once you
confirm the person you’re texting. In case there are any mis-transcribed words, you can mouse over the word and
a list of alternative words will appear. Select the word you intended to use. We love that feature!

Want to send yourself a reminder? Say “Note to Self” Then speak your reminder. You can adjust how you want to be
reminded – choosing from receiving an email or a text message. Dave doesn’t like how when he sends himself a
reminder as an email, it displays the message on the subject line and in the body of the email. It’s a
duplicated effort, but I think it’s meant to get your attention.

Another convenient feature with vlingo is the web search. You can say “web search” (fill-in details here). For instance,
“web search Madonna concert tickets in Miami” would do a Google search. Dave has it default to Google,
but you can also you use Yahoo. This would be good to use at a stop light when you’re looking
for a place to eat or for movie times. It saves you time and peace of mind.

Check out our “Into Tomorrow” Update video above and check out how vlingo works. Enjoy!
